The debut of the MX Speedster at the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
Please reach us at info@xenex.us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our body kits and accessories are now available for sale online! Please note that Xenex Motorsports LLC does not produce or sell completed cars or rollers. Instead, we offer a very high-quality re-body kit that replaces all but the donor Mazda NA Miata MX-5's chassis, hood, and doors.
Our MX Speedster and MX Speedster ‘S’ are identical re-body kits – the difference is in the power plant the customer decides to keep or install. The MX Speedster ‘RS’ has a more radical IMSA-like front end and an updated rear tail light panel and lights. Prices will be posted on our soon-to-be-updated website in February 2023.
The team at Xenex has been working with numerous high-end suppliers for the past year, carefully selecting precisely fitted and optimally compatible options for the MX Speedster, to include:
Stainless steel sport headers and exhaust, 17x8/9-inch wheels, Xenex wheel center cap, 255/45ZR-17 (front) and 275/40ZR-17 (rear) tires,** sport suspension, Wilwood big brake kit, custom supercharger, sport camshaft, short-shift kit with a Xenex carbon fiber shift knob, shifter & handbrake leather boot replacement, side mirrors, competition seat belts, custom ‘D’ steering wheel, Xenex horn button, custom interior door panels, aluminum competition pedals, pro-rally passenger foot rest, navigation/phone/music 2-DIN system fitted for the NA ‘tombstone,’ front LED driving light array, LED head lights, tonneau cover, car cover, replacement seat covers, fitted trunk/boot 2-piece luggage set, fire extinguisher, many carbon fiber components, and much more.
You will be able to order all of these options from our website at the same time you order your MX Speedster re-body kit. As for rollbars, while easy to install, they are best left to a local speed shop and are not available from Xenex.
**The MX Speedster kit is designed to accommodate 17x8/9-inch wheels and not the stock NA wheels.
Initially, our MX Speedster re-body kits will only be available through our website and shipped from one of our USA-based offices. However, we are developing a dealer network here in the United States and abroad to better serve our customers.
Production of customer MX Speedster re-body kits began in April 2023.
The final cost has yet to be determined. However, it is expected that the MX Speedster and MX Speedster ‘S’ kits (which are identical except for badging) will sell for ±US$9,850, while the MX Speedster ‘RS’ version – with its unique race-style front air dam and special rear tail light panel – will sell for an additional ±US$1,925.
Our MX Speedster re-body kit has been designed and engineered to be used exclusively on the Mazda Miata MX-5 NA (1990-1997) platform. Good donor candidate Miata MX-5s with minor body damage can currently be found for prices ranging from US$2,500 to US$7,000. And keep in mind, after you purchase your donor car you can sell the soft top, hard top, A/C system, windshield, side windows, wheels & tires, and various body parts to help lower your project cost. Importantly, our current re-body kit is not compatible with any other year or model Mazda. We will consider at a later date developing a Speedster re-body kit for later models of the Miata (NB, NC, ND) in 2024.
The MX Speedster re-body kit replaces the front bumper, air dam, front right and left fenders, the windshield, the dash top, the rocker panels, and the rear bumper and trunk lid with hand-laid fiberglass. It superimposes new body panels over the rear two fenders, and provides a top panel that fits on top of each door concealing the egress slot for the side windows. Each kit also includes the twin helmet fairings that sit above and behind the seats (this component is removeable post-conversion and may be omitted for those who intend to keep their original windshield and convertible top). Our ‘RS’ re-body kit also replaces the rear tail light panel & lights with an ‘RS’ special version, and uses a more aggressive front air dam. Your MX Speedster will retain the donor car’s doors and hood.
Xenex will provide each purchaser with a video tutorial that will take them step-by-step through the installation process. Additional help will be available by email or telephone.
We believe that the fit and finish of our fiberglass body panels and parts (fourteen to be precise) is such that a mechanically capable customer could assemble our re-body kit themselves. Each kit will come with an instructional video that walks them through the entire process. However, for most customers a body shop is recommended, and they should be able to assemble the whole kit on the donor NA Miata in about a day.
Unlike most kit cars – and one of the benefits of the MX Speedster – is that it is built on an already registered, street-legal Miata MX-5 NA platform. In the United States, once completed the MX Speedster does not need to be re-registered; it remains registered as a Mazda Miata. Windshield requirements, etc., vary from state to state so it is the purchaser’s obligation to ensure that the MX Speedster is compliant with their state and local laws.
Yes. Our MX Speedster re-body kit is engine agnostic: Regardless of the model, you can use whatever engine you desire provided it will fit in a standard Miata NA.
Yes. We will gladly ship to our overseas customers. As with all of our sales, domestic or international, shipping and insurance is FOB.
With sufficient demand, right-hand steering kits will be introduced in the second quarter of 2023. Let us know if you're interested!
Orders began be taken in late-April 2023 with each re-body kit being made to order thereafter. Due to their being hand-made, orders received later in the year may experience extended production delays. A deposit of 50% will be required with each order.
Xenex Motorsports is currently negotiating with prospective dealers both here in the United States and countries overseas. We invite well established and respected dealers to contact us for more information.
For early-2023 orders, delivery time is expected to be 45-90 days. Orders later in the year will potentially see longer fulfillment times due to the hand-built nature of our body kits.
